06/07/2007 - The summer season officially begins this Saturday with one of Cleveland's best festivals, Parade the Circle, a celebration of art sponsored by the Cleveland Museum of Art. A fantastic array of costumes, music and festivities for all ages, the Parade is a Mardi Gras style event that is unique in many ways.

The Upper school art classes have been preparing flags, banners, and costumes for the event and invites you to join the celebration. This year’s Parade overall theme is “Symbiosis -- a lyrical discord of harmonious contradictions.” Hawken's theme will be "Screens and screams; impressions of Japan. Koi, cranes, blossoms, Godzilla."

Those who wish to participate will assemble on Saturday June 9, between 11:00 and 11:30am, under the Fushia Balloons at the Natural History Museum in University Circle. All ages are welcome and there are plenty of activities after the parade, as well as music and great food.

For a uniform look, please dress in light colors (preferably white t -shirts), shorts (it's going to be warm) and comfortable shoes/sandals are encouraged. NO TEXT is allowed in the parade, so please keep it simple.

Stop by at the Upper School Art offices if you’re sure your coming and we can supply you with an admission button and additional info. Otherwise, feel free to just show up at the parade.
