Sun shines, so do students in Mini-Olympics

In over 20 years the sun has never failed to shine on Hawken's Bright Horizons Mini-Olympics. It's always been a day of big smiles and blue skies. This year was no different.
"Isn't that just amazing?!" said Nadja Deighan, Hawken's Director of Community Outreach.
The Bright Horizons service learning partnership each year teams Hawken students with students from Citizens Academy, a Cleveland charter school, for a variety of enrichment and learning activities. Upper School students help plan a carnival for kindergartners through second graders and a theatrical production with third graders. The Mini-Olympics are for fourth and fifth graders.
As part of this year's games teams of Academy students formed ancient Greek city-states and chronicled the history of the Olympic games throughout the day’s events which included historical presentations, a poetry and essay contest, Greek myths, Greek dancing by the Hawken dance ensemble, togas, the actual games themselves and more.
