Hawken has a proud athletic tradition with an impressive record of success. Despite our small size, we often play
schools three and four times our size -- and win. Our athletes are coached to give their best and to have fun,
and the result is a bonding of athletes, coaches, and teams who exhibit tremendous success.
The experience of participating on an athletic team is a valuable one. It can even be an integral component of a
student's overall educational experience. The primary objective of the program is to provide opportunities for students
to develop positive habits and attitudes. It is the aim of Hawken athletics to provide our athletes with the ability to
win gracefully and respond to losing with dignity. Hawken students learn the lifelong value of involvement in sports, of
good sportsmanship, of commitment, of physical activity, of skill development, of sacrifice, and the significance of
teamwork and decision-making, as well as an appreciation for the notion that participation in athletics is a privilege.
