Hawken's Academic Profile (2004-2005)
The School
Founded in 1915, Hawken School is a nonsectarian, PK-12 coeducational,
college preparatory school located on the east side of Cleveland. Two campuses
incorporate approximately 950 students representing a wide diversity of ethnic,
religious and social groups. Fifteen percent of the student body is minority classified
and 25 percent of the upper school receives financial aid. The upper school,
comprised of 440 students, is located on the 300-acre Gates Mills campus.
The Faculty
There are 58 faculty at the upper school. 10 hold Ph.D.s and 37 hold
a master's degree.
Accreditation and Membership
Hawken School is accredited by the Independent School Association of the
Central States and the Ohio State Department of Education. Membership is held
in the National Association for College Admission Counseling, the National
Association of Independent Schools, the Ohio Association for College Admission
Counseling, the College Entrance Examination Board and the College Board.

Hawken does not rank its students. Historically, students found in the lowest quintile are accepted and succeed at competitive
colleges. Grades are not weighted and calculation of GPA distribution includes academic courses only.

Hawken School will report any disciplinary probation or suspension if it involves serious infractions or harmful patterns of behavior,
as well as all dismissals from the school. Students are instructed to answer honestly any question regarding disciplinary violations.
