THE POSITION:Hawken School is seeking a creative, passionate and entrepreneurial educator to be the lead teacher and assistant director of our Entrepreneurial Studies Semester Program, currently the signature program of the Sydell and Arnold Miller Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. The centerpiece of the curriculum is its use of real world problems within an honors-level interdisciplinary program; the program is scheduled to allow for immersion and travel while completing 3 course credits. This is a fulltime combined teaching and administrative position. The essential responsibilities include:
Teach the Entrepreneurial Studies Program to high school juniors and seniors using Hawken’s unique entrepreneurial studies model
Engage meaningfully in and collaborate on the evolution of the overall program
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Entrepreneurial Studies or Head of School
QUALIFICATIONS: This educator will have a natural affinity for high school age students and an understanding of their developmental needs. Candidates must be committed to developing a signature entrepreneurship program within an integrated curriculum that stresses problem solving, personal growth, collaboration, and practical application. Candidates possessing demonstrated competence in entrepreneurship as well as pedagogical best practices are at an advantage.
The most important goal of the program is to provide students with authentic opportunities to apply learning to the real world through experiential and immersion opportunities related to entrepreneurship. We are seeking an educator who brings a healthy combination of flexibility, energy, creativity, high expectations and a sense of humor. Candidates should have demonstrated experience working in a diverse community and possess strong cross cultural competency skills. An advanced degree is preferred.

Upper School Chinese Teacher to work in Chesterland, Ohio: Prepare and plan instructional programs in Mandarin for grades 9-12. Teach four sections of Mandarin Chinese (beginners to advanced). Develop, write and use lesson plans. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and school policy. Plan for and administer assessment activities. Monitor students progress and grade assignments. Manage class time. Speak Mandarin.
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Foreign Language Education (or equivalent based on evaluation of academic credentials, training and/or experience) as well as twelve months in job or job related experience to include all duties listed above as well as the ability to speak Mandarin. Must have or be able to obtain an Ohio Teaching license. Suitable combination of education, training and experience is acceptable. Experience may have been gained before, during or after degree. Hawken School is seeking a substitute Math teacher for a full-time assignment from approximately March 1 to May 5, 2017.
Candidates should have at least two years of teaching experience and an undergraduate degree in Mathematics. Responsibilities include being on campus from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (Monday-Friday), teaching two sections of Algebra II and two sections of Calculus (non AP) in a rotating 80-minute block schedule, associated preparation and grading, proctoring duties and being available to meet with students for extra help.
Comfort with educational technologies and learning management systems are required. Ideal candidates will have a good working knowledge of Canvas and internet-based programs like WebAssign, Desmos or Kahoot.
