THE POSITION:Hawken Upper School is seeking a part-time administrative assistant for the deans’ team. The position will be located in the newly constructed Stirn Hall on Hawken’s Gates Mills Campus and will report directly to the Assistant Director for Student Life. Work hours will be weekdays from 7:30AM to 1:00PM, with a 30 minute late morning break, averaging 25 hours per week when school is in session. Some flexibility with respect to longer hours may be required for occasional special events.
Duties for this position include but are not limited to:
Answer phones for both Lyndhurst and Gates Mills campuses
Serve as a central router of information for campus members
Manage the student attendance system and provide timely information to the deans at the Upper School
Support the deans in their communication with parents regarding attendance and other disciplinary matters
Assist in the organization of student detentions
Assist with the supervision of student common areas contiguous to the reception area
Oversee face to face arrivals and departures of students and the digital sign-in/out process, thereby providing a critical lens to the tracking of students on a large, open campus
Oversee use of the café by student groups who reserve the space
Aid with the sales of Hawken items in the Hawks Nest when parents are not present
Distribute locker combinations and sell shuttle passes to students
Issue parking passes to students and faculty/staff
Maintain scheduling in the School’s online facilities reservation system for Upper School faculty, including inquiry resolution
Assist the Upper School Office in accomplishing occasional special projects, as time allows
QUALIFICATIONS:The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a good sense of humor and consistent demeanor. Passion for working with students and an understanding of adolescents is essential. Candidate must have demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook along with solid administrative skills. A strong aptitude for recognizing patterns and simplifying systems is required. We seek a proven ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple demands.

THE POSITION: Hawken School is seeking a full-time, interim Seventh Grade Science Teacher for the 2016-17 school year. The essential duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Teach four sections of seventh grade science, which includes integrated teaching with other subject areas on cross-disciplinary units and projects.
Serve as a member of the Middle School Science Department, attending departmental meetings, developing, and supporting the work of the Science Department.
Serve as a seventh grade advisor to approximately twelve students, overseeing their academic and social growth.
Serve as a member on the seventh grade team of core teachers (humanities, math, science), meeting on a daily/weekly basis to assess and develop appropriate programmatic and curricular pieces that support students, such as block schedule teaching, service learning, and advisory programming.
Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Head of School, and Head of School.
QUALIFICATIONS:Hawken School seeks a dynamic and innovative individual committed to teaching the total child. Candidates must possess demonstrated competence and leadership in Science curriculum development, instruction and pedagogy. A Master’s degree in Science and recent teaching experience is preferred.
