About Hawken

Well-recognized as a community that promotes passionate teaching, engaged learning, and confident self-expression, Hawken School seeks employees who are philosophically aligned with our mission and who are committed to eliciting the full academic, artistic, and athletic potential in every student. Because the school’s guiding principles include an appreciation for differences and individuality, we are keenly interested in candidates with a proven commitment to engaging in and promoting a diverse, multicultural community that reflects varying backgrounds and perspectives.

Founded in 1915 in Cleveland, Ohio, Hawken School is a coeducational independent day school with over 1,000 students enrolled in preschool through grade 12. With two academic campuses within 25 minutes of downtown Cleveland and an urban extension center in the cultural heart of the city at University Circle, Hawken provides a demanding and integrated course of study that features innovative schedules to support individualized student attention and educational partnerships with world renowned institutions to support real-world learning opportunities.

Hawken’s Lyndhurst campus features a stunning Early Childhood Center with nationally recognized programming and a newly designed Lower School that includes an eco-garden, musical arts center, and new science labs. The Gates Mills campus looks forward to the August 2016 opening of Stirn Hall, the school’s most significant capital expansion in over 50 years. In addition to replacing and renovating outmoded classroom facilities, the new academic facility is designed to support our unique Upper School schedule, unparalleled programming, and varied teaching and learning styles. Substantial professional development opportunities support and maintain exceptional creativity and collaboration in a classroom that expands into the greater community, locally and worldwide.

A major campaign was launched during our 2015 centennial year to complete campus renovations and to address future programming, faculty/staff development and the endowment. Funding for these initiatives will ensure that the school continues to fulfill its mission of “forward focused preparation for the real world through the development of character and intellect” during the school’s second century.
